Introducing Trust in the Tribe — A Novel About What Holds Us Together

October 2, 2025David Macintosh    TrustAndEthics MedicineAndHumanity

Every community—whether a surgical team, a family, or a circle of friends—runs on one fragile but essential element: trust.

Trust in the Tribe is a novel that explores that idea through the intertwined lives of surgeons, their patients, and the people who depend on them. It’s not an academic treatise, but a story—one that looks at how trust is tested and rebuilt in moments that matter most.

This isn’t a binge drop. We’ll be releasing one chapter at a time, letting each section breathe, linger, and maybe provoke a few late-night thoughts.

At the end of each chapter, you’ll find study guide questions—designed not for homework, but for reflection:

  • What does trust mean when precision meets pressure?

  • How do we decide who deserves it—and who has to earn it back?

  • Can compassion survive the cold steel of professionalism?

Alongside the story, you’ll meet Ted and Maya, teacher and student, whose conversations dig beneath the plot to explore the ethical bones of trust itself—how it shapes medicine, morality, and the choices that define us.
